Stoneman Distributors cannot guarantee that you will receive a specific colour or shape on phone/E-Mail orders. I can only guess by what is on the outside. I will do my best to try to give you what you want. Every piece is excellent after you work with it.
The stone is in natural form, this gives you more to work with, using the shape. The above piece is brown, The exact shade of brown is a mystery until it is sanded and polished. The piece to the right is the finished piece.
MOHS SCALE
The Mohs scale is a devise that tell you the hardness of things. Soapstone is a 1 on the scale and Granite is roughly a 7.5. This shows the wide variety of carving material.

CRACKS IN THE STONE
You may see cracks as you take the outside of the stone off. A little tip is the magic word. Crazy Glue. It needs to be ORIGINAL Crazy Glue and run a generous amount along the crack and give it time to seep in and repeat as you go to the carving finish or until the crack disappears. Many times it is only a surface crack, but for $1.50 a tube why take the chance. Keep some on hand. No, I am not a sales rep for Crazy Glue.
TODAY'S TIP
There are many different variety of colours in the stone, all of which produce many varieties of art. Brazilian soapstone is one of the favourites of carvers because of the softness and the fine detail that it will hold. Polishing and sanding the stone to a six hundred grit, brings out the beauty within after millions of years. The colour varies with each stone. No two are ever alike. These are a few of the shades that you will find at Stoneman Distributors. Please do not expect to be able to get just green or a certain shade. You will not and that is one of the fun things about working with the Brazilian.
